We have fairly recently found a fossilized turtle that met an untimely death approx 125 million years ago whilst swimming in the vicinity of what is now the river Avon in Wiltshire. You can see from the image that the neck is broken. We unknowingly sliced straight through its eye and mouth. The mouth is clearly visible and has sand within it then the calcite of its tongue. The hole to the right hand side is looking down through the centre of its tail. The other side of this stone you can see each individual vertabrae going to the point of the tail. The second section of stone shows its flipper or foot? The stone is natural Bath limestone. We have not heard of any turtle ever being found in this area or stone type.
